This five-day summer fiction course with acclaimed fiction-writers Liz Jensen and Solvej Balle takes place in the picturesque town of Marstal on the beautiful Danish island of Ærø.

Whether you are experienced or just starting out, the course offers a unique chance to take your writing to the next level and to experience the thrill of being part of a writing group.

Though the emphasis will be on fiction, the course will also cover elements of memoir, auto-fiction and narrative non-fiction.

The aim is to help you generate fresh material while learning about character development, story structure, setting, scene-building, dialogue, and the editing process.

Though the teaching will be in English, all nationalities are welcome. Both Liz and Solvej are happy to read and discuss work in either English or Danish in the individual afternoon sessions.

The course hours are from 10 – 18 at Motorfabrikken, Havnegade 11, Marstal, a former machine factory turned funky new making-space. Part masterclass, part hands-on workshop, the morning session will consist of flash fiction exercises, brainstorming, workshops and group discussion.

After the lunch break, the afternoon will be devoted to free writing and one-on-one tutorials.

Here you can get feedback on the fresh material you have produced on the course - or chapters/excerpts that you have written before the course as a part your ongoing work.

Max 16 participants.

Our guest speaker is the celebrated Danish author and Marstal native Carsten Jensen. He will talk about his writing process - and how his home-town and its sailors inspired him to write his international best-seller We, The Drowned.

The price includes five full days of teaching, but not food or accommodation. There are excellent local restaurants in walking distance, and a range of places to stay, including “Femmasteren Hotel og Hostel” which has rooms in all price ranges.
